MySQL and the Oracle Acquisition of Sun

9 01 2010

There is no reason at all why the concerns about MySQL should be stopping the Oracle acquisition of Sun Microsystems. The concern seems to be that that Oracle will kill off MySQL.  Unlikely.

Neither Oracle nor anybody else can kill any open source project.  That’s what open source is all about.  If the open source community does not like what Oracle is doing with MySQL, they can fork the code and do what they want with it independent of Oracle.

This is a very huge non-issue.  …Except for the poor Sun employees whose careers are in limbo because the EU is blocking the transaction.

Let’s play ball!
